About

The European network EUPertStrain was established in 2001 with the aims to improve pertussis surveillance and to study impact of Bordetella pertussis changes on vaccine effectiveness among European countries. It consists of many national reference laboratories and research laboratories in Europe. The network has published several expert consensus articles regarding the diagnosis of pertussis by PCR and serology, and epidemiological typing of B. pertussis. It provides an important platform for exchanging information in the field of pertussis at European level. The network has been coordinated by the Finnish National Reference Laboratory for Pertussis and Diphtheria at the University of Turku, Turku, Finland. The network has organized its annual meetings and EUPert serial studies.

We warmly invite you to save the date and plan to join us for this upcoming meeting, which will be hosted in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

We would also like to invite you to consider submitting an abstract.

To submit an abstract, please send a PDF or Word document to eupert2026@nlzoh.si. Please, indicate “abstract submission” in the subject. Abstract submission is open until 15th of August, 2026. The abstract should consist of Title, Authors, Background & Aims, Material and Methods, Results, and Conclusions. The word limit is 250.

Abstracts are invited for oral presentations in four areas of pertussis research and surveillance:

1.         Diagnostics and clinical aspects

2.         Biology and evolution

3.         Immunology and vaccines

4.         Epidemiology and typing
