Pollen is an important source of allergens in the natural environment, and the cause of the appearance of symptoms of allergic disease in hypersensitive individuals. In our laboratory, we monitor 60 types of pollen of various allergenic potential, and publish the results of measurements from different phytogeographical areas in Slovenia. Data on daily concentrations, together with many years of experience, are the basis for making short-term forecasts about pollen air pollution.

9 – 16 September 2026

In the lowlands, the ragweed pollen season continues; rainfall will temporarily reduce airborne pollen concentrations. As the weather improves, pollen levels will be low to moderate, high concentrations may still occur in northeastern Slovenia.

The common mugwort pollen season has ended. In the second half of September, pollen grains from non-native species may occasionally be detected in the air. Grass, plantain, and goosefoot family pollen will still be present, but concentrations will generally be too low to cause allergic symptoms. Pollen loads from the low-allergenic nettle family are decreasing.

In the coastal region, ragweed pollen levels will be low during dry weather. Short-term increases may occur due to windborne transport of pollen from inland areas. Grass, plantain, mugwort, and goosefoot family pollen will still be present, along with slightly higher levels of nettle family pollen (nettle and pellitory).

Fungal spore levels remain high, some species may trigger allergic reactions.
