Pollen is an important source of allergens in the natural environment, and the cause of the appearance of symptoms of allergic disease in hypersensitive individuals. In our laboratory, we monitor 60 types of pollen of various allergenic potential, and publish the results of measurements from different phytogeographical areas in Slovenia. Data on daily concentrations, together with many years of experience, are the basis for making short-term forecasts about pollen air pollution.
Pollen calendar in Slovenian language is available here.
Forecast from June 24 to July 2, 2025
In the lowlands, the highest grass pollen levels are behind us. The loads will gradually decrease, but they can still reach moderate to locally high values. Low-allergenic plantain is blooming, with generally low to moderate pollen levels.
The sweet chestnut season is at its peak, the loads will be moderate to high, depending on the tree’s distribution. The bigleaf and littleleaf linden are blooming. The highest concentrations of pollen are found near the trees, the strong scent may affect the well-being of some individuals. Low-allergenic pollen from nettles will be present in the air in larger quantities, along with individual grains of sorrel, privet and plants from the goosefoot family.
In the coastal region, grass pollen levels will be low to moderate. Sweet chestnut pollen concentrations may occasionally increase due to transport from more distant areas. The nettle pollen season (nettle and pellitory) is underway, with expected moderate pollen loads. Pollen from plantain, linden, and goosefoot will also be present. The ornamental broad-leaf privet is blooming at the moment, it is insect-flowered, therefore there is more pollen only near the trees.
We have detected increased fungal spore loads, dominated by Cladosporium and Alternaria. The loads increase during mowing and field work.
